For this tour, we visited the tranquil Meiji Shrine. This shrine was built in memory of the Emperor Meiji and the Empress Shoken. It was such a peaceful walk through the forest. Our guests tried their luck at the omikuji! Typically, the omikuji is a fortune that could be good or bad luck. The omikuji at Meiji Shrine is different! Instead, guests can receive a poem written by either the Emperor or Empress.

After our stroll through Meiji Shrine, we checked out the shops in the bustling Takeshita Street of Harajuku. We saw the unique Harajuku fashion and popular sweets. We also saw a micro pig cafe! The micro pigs were adorable.

After our walk through Takeshita Street, we stopped by an excellent restaurant for some delicious sushi. 🤤

Despite the constant challenges posed by the terror of wars and natural disasters such as earthquakes and fires, Asakusa has always risen out of the ashes. It still is one of Tokyo’s most popular destinations!

We had another fun trip to Sensoji, the Asakusa temple! Our friends tried their luck with the Omikujo, or fortunes! Unfortunately, we drew bad fortunes this time. Don’t worry though! As is tradition, we tied up the bad fortunes and left the bad luck behind!

From there we made our way to the tea room and learned the art of Sado, the tea ceremony. After a fun day of exploring, nothing beats ending the tour with a nice cup of matcha tea!

This past weekend, we made our way to the Yamatane Art Museum! Yamatane is well known for specializing in nihonga, or Japanese style paintings. The museum is currently running a special exhibition, Are you a Dog or Cat Person? (犬派？猫派？) This exhibition showcases stunning works, by artists such as Tsuguhara Fujita, Yamaguchi Akira, and Takeuchi Seiho, revolving around an adorable theme. Personally, I am a dog person, but I also loved the paintings of cats as well! While the focus of the exhibition are the cats and dogs, the splendor of the art certainly isn’t limited by this theme! Each of the paintings captures the essence of nihonga as well as each artists’ respective style. We also discovered some paintings with other animals as well!
